After a brief respite during the month of August, the Silver Lake Singers are getting ready to begin our third year of singing in and around the Mount Washington Valley. Since last Fall, we have found opportunities to sing at bedside, in hospital hallways, for nursing home residents, and at memorial services. We have also enjoyed singing for a number of curious and wonderful community events: a concert at Twelve Main, in Sandwich, The Madison Historical Society’s Wedding Dress exhibit, South Eaton Meetinghouse 250th, Freedom Old Home Week, and more that I can’t call to mind just now. It is a privilege and joy to be together each week, to call to mind family, friends and neighbors – even souls unknown to us, personally – in need of healing, to sing for them from afar, believing that our singing and our intentions reach beyond the room we inhabit and our capacity to understand how that is so. What we can say for certain is that we are healed and filled with all good things when we sing together. Here’s to another year around the sun …
